Maybe the kids are back to school now?
MikeLast replied to at June 12, 2010, 5:00 pm

Ahhh yes

But not for long
WillLast replied to at June 12, 2010, 7:55 pm

Alan you aren't funny.
MikeLast replied to at June 12, 2010, 9:59 pm

Did that touch a nerve Will? :-p
WillLast replied to at June 13, 2010, 10:37 am

No, just fed up with idiots playing the "kids" card. There are a lot of teenagers that are good at making money online and are trustworthy and we do not need stupid comments like that!
MikeLast replied to at June 13, 2010, 1:08 pm

True.

But a good site isn't going to be run by someone who wants to 'earn money online' it has to be more than that.

And yes you're right many are trustworthy but for every one that is, there's two that aren't or gave no experience, find it difficult and give up.

Alan@pennybuilderLast replied to at June 13, 2010, 1:51 pm

Oh dear, someone needs to get a sense of humour around here. I could be just as offended at being called an idiot but fortunately I am not...although my own kids sometimes may not agree...

Oh and Mike's right, its not just about making money...its how your kids spend it for you lol

MikeLast replied to at June 13, 2010, 2:01 pm

Haha Alan, I don't think anyone other than you have the pleasure of having kids spending their money
Alan@pennybuilderLast replied to at June 13, 2010, 5:44 pm

lol did I mention the wife?

What age do you define kid though? Before 18? Because theres alot of untrustworthy sites (in general) being run and i bet more by adults.
In the past 2 years i think the your-brand system has become very popular and mostly being run by people as young as like 12? now (even i think thats too young) .. IMO i would say that 15+ would say was the minimum age to run a site as long as you have a good head on you.

And regarding Mikes comment about finding sites hard & giving up.. People are TOO picky about simple things now - The design of a site for instance, some sites look alright but if they are 'perfect' people moan so much and tell kids to invest in a new design and when they express they cant afford it automatically they get told they cant run a site - whats all that about?

A cashback isnt a very difficult site to maintain after a few months and you get a payment system in place where they are going in and out.

Anyway, i'd generally agree with Will.. but at the same time agree with Mikes comment about the people who give up. I have before, but refuse to again, a site cant become trusted and popular if your selling them on 24/7.

Some valid points Amy.

You mentioned that YB has got very popular. I assume you mean popular for owners.

I recently saw some information regarding active members. It appears there are more sites than active members and these members go from site to site. Decreasing the quality of leads for advertisers.

As for designs. I think we have discussed this issue before. My argument is, the better the design looks, the better the site is, or at least appears to be.

If a site has a good design it shows someone is willing invest time and money into their site. If they're willing to do this then surely they're more likely to want the site to do well long term and the site will remain open and will be run well.

If a design is free, shows no originality and looks a bit of a mess, then it's less likely to do well simply because it looks less trustworthy.

The people I spoke about earlier, the ones who go from YB site to YB site are the people that you aim for if you want to run your site on the basis of 'the design doesn't matter, it's how it's run' and that's fine, that's your market.

But if you want to attract new people in from the outside, people who don't know YB, or have been reluctant to join because of problems in the past then you need to be seen to be professional.

Yeah, popular with owners. And oh, well i agree with your argument about designs, but i was getting more at the fact when people are starting out they arent gonna purchase a £150 design, they are (if anything) going to go cheap and cheerful. Although i agree, i personally avoid sites if the designs rubbish.

Anyway, i dont think it matters TOO much on age aslong as you have a good head on you and i can think of a few people who dont on here lol.

TomLast replied to at June 15, 2010, 4:29 pm

Age doesn't matter if the person is capable of running the site and runs it like someone older then them, Even (who was 12) was not capable and too immateur, thats why people disliked him.

People should not be judgemental by someones age, a quote by Matt Lovett states 'it doesn't matter about your age, it's about how good your idea is'

In a way, that means it doesn't matter about your age, it's about how capable you are of running the site.
TomLast replied to at June 15, 2010, 4:38 pm

Valid point Tom.

I think the problem we have is not that people complain about people's age directly. Its the fact that the majority of them aren't capable, and its due to their age.

"Its not about how old you are, its about how good your idea is".

Many people don't have a good idea, just a carbon copy of whats already around. And as they say in the wild west:

"This town aint big enough for the both of us"
