Hello, Matt contacted me on friday saing that my cashback site (mega-cashback.co.uk) will be setup on Monday (yesterday), although its not setup and he said a few times that it will be setup within the next few days, still not setup, so how long did it take for most people's cashback site to be setup?

Give up! Cashback sites don't make any money

cut your losses and run

Got my cashback site setup in a few days.

Like the name of your site :)
Daniel BealLast replied to at June 22, 2010, 8:10 pm

Dave: Cashback sites do turn a profit as long as you receive payments form advertisers on time. Although YourBrand does have a down point as users expect to see CashillionConnect campaigns on the site and the payments are always delayed.

As there always seems to be some excuse, and when they are no more excuses the staff simple don't respond. Useless.
MikeLast replied to at June 22, 2010, 8:17 pm

Dave your points are valid

Oliver don't expect to be making hundreds of pounds just because you have a cashback site. It simply doesn't work like that.

A cashback site will take you months to build up to make a decent amount of money. Many people give up before then.

Out of interest, how old are you?

I'm 16

i agree with daniel blog but maybe if he went solo and not yourbrand site as most are fed up with yb sites to be honest
MikeLast replied to at June 23, 2010, 7:03 pm

YB's image could be saved, but Matt needs a crisis meeting with yours truely and I'd get it sorted for him.
darrenLast replied to at June 23, 2010, 7:30 pm

lets face it they come and go lets take
clevercashback not been up long and already gone you can't get rich from cashback sites but you can make a profit if you work hard

to be honest most of it is down to age
1) they do not have the income to support advertising or paying members or how to deal with it when it goes belly up

yes the market is flooded with sites
but hard work and informing your members how you run the site helps
and allow no abuse and you should be fine

I sure hope you dont give up easily.. if you have determination and a bit of money, then you'll be able to make your site work.

And whoever linked to that blog, it isn't completely accurate, its hypocritical and it just seems a way to put people off from entering the cashback market :-), lol. However, there IS a market for cashback sites, it's just about finding the right area, and the right people to target to use the site.
MikeLast replied to at June 25, 2010, 12:48 am

Ben, I've seen stats from a few small and large YB sites.

Each site pretty much has the same usernames it is transaction lists.

There are more cashback sites than users of YB sites.

Because there are so many it devalues the quality of the traffic that is sent. Which means that the advertisers pull put, run lower rates or switch to no incent.

Yes there is money to be made, but for every new site that is set up, every site that is running gets devalued (this includes your sites).

Even sites with large user bases make naf all. A site with 30 active daily users will make about £3-4 a day in revenue, not gross or net profit.

To actually make a site worth running you need to do something special.
darrenLast replied to at June 25, 2010, 11:10 am

i agree with mike there are more sites than users of yb sites i can say myself i stayed away from a few yb sites because the same thing happens time and time again they either get sold after a few months or they ignore peoples requests for there money ect same old story

can you make a profit yes if you can convince people to trust you

would you trust a site if one minute it is up and the next it is down you would stay clear from it

in general we do not know how many big sites have actual users on there books

here is a stat from a site that opened

in 2007 paid members total £170,354.64
so lets say they gain 150,000,00
to allow for shoppers over 3 years

so thats £50,000 a year then they have advertising, hosting wages ect to take out of that so yes profit can be made but it won't make you rich

and to make an impact you will need money behind you to get you going for advertising

this is why when matt allows kids to setup a site he should give them at least 1 hours lecture on how it works and what problems they face

matt quality is better than quantity

my advice to any young lad setting up a cashback site think what it involves how are you going to pay don't pay before you are paid this is the first mistake most people make

1) networks are not reliable so make sure you get paid before you make payments which will be hard for you to generate members using your brand

2) advertising make sure you pick the right choices daily clicks or leads

both these have ups and downs if you choose daily clicks

1)the ups is you get your site noticed but you really want the big guys displaying your site or basically your money is going down the drain
2) leads now this is tricky make sure you pick the right place again
you will find most of these are false leads unless you are lucky so make sure you have strict instructions set out
or you will find the same person going from one site to the other and sign up
again you only want good sites displaying your site for this lets say for sample

a site wants to advertise you but has 30 members but only 5 are active i would avoid people can argue that 5 customers you missed out on i doubt it

then ive seen a site with 2000 members but the quality of leads were not so good so its trial and error

look i have nothing against kids or young lads that want to make money its good they have an idea but it aint a get rich idea anymore

if sites owners took pride in there sites and didnt allow users to abuse offers we would be making more of a profit as you are less likely to have them rejected over a period of time

hope ive helped some young lad or girl out there to think before you decide

No Research

Thats the biggest reason why people's sites fail.

They don't do any market research, they don't know if there is a demand (which there isn't), for a new cashback site, unless its 'radically different' (which is how I describe something I have in the pipeline).

They don't research competitiors to see what they're doing, they don't research suppliers (ad networks) to so where they're going to get retailers from, they don't produce any form of estimation of figures so they don't know how much they're actually going to make.

And based on the figures I stated in an earlier post, its clearly not going to be what they expected.

I think there should be a cap on the number of YB sites running. If a site doesn't generate any clicks in x days, it should be shut down as some are just sat there dying.

This would force quality control

Another way would be to force people to produce a business plan and would weed out the people who just want to get rich!

darrenLast replied to at June 25, 2010, 5:05 pm

to shut a site down would be illegal you can't state you have to generate a set amount of clicks this would basically push people to do false clicks and not what matt states on joining yb

people need to stop saying there is no market for it if we didnt have the 18% fees we would be making a profit how ever small there may not be a market to sell the sites well not yb because all we own is the domain which are around 5 pounds

i agree there should be a cap on the amount that are created

i do think you need another project or idea to make a decent return

mike if we wasnt getting anywhere we would pack it in
as you know i use sites so ive stated before yb is not trusted via members so the smart ones avoid them

take me ive stuck to the trusted ones like magic and avoid all new sites
credit prizes used now and then
used free coin
the rest i don't bother with

to push the idea that there is no money to be made maybe thats true using a yourbrand setup we all have our choices to make

maybe joey can come here and dan who have sites and state whether they are in profit or not

you have to base it on the sites like chief ecasher maybe not topcashback as they are 100% sites

i think if you have time to spend on a site and do some research you should in time find easy to make a profit how big all small that is time will tell

you do need some money behind you to invest and are prepared not to show an instant reward from it

but most are kids so don't have time or money to invest lets take clver cashback for this

not going to name the owner but i told this person not to signup as he did not have the basics covered which was a shame as he was a nice lad but this is what happens and you can't escape its mostly kids that fail due to lack of time or finances ect

1) do i think you will make money with yb yes but not a lot

2) if you have your own site i think you can make a better profit in the long run yes

3)avoid bad networks this is a killer to your site as well for your members

we had this done to us from a previous cashback owner who setup a dodgy network whi was i qoute supposed to be matt friend

is he responsible for this no but he is responsible for passing on contact details as he recommended this network in his affilaite panel

so do your research on networks that pay and ones that have trouble

if you can find another niche or market then i would suggest you invest in that

if you are 16 or under i would say stay clear
it would be good for matt to come on here as he owns britsh and state a little how many actual active members he has rather than the ammount that have actually joined so it would give people an idea of what they face

mike could be right and maybe there is not many active users as we are think there are accross all sites not just yb

the choices are yours

maybe its time to find new niche
but i can say if the poor quality continues then it will come to an end sooner or later

take facebook for a sample how many people do you know that was always on it and now use it now and then

same with friends reunited faceparty
sooner or later it dies down but still has it market so still makes a profit

if you have a member base you have the tools to genreate an income

sorry for the ramble was bored waiting for the tea to cook anyway good luck with what ever you decide

MikeLast replied to at June 25, 2010, 5:24 pm

Haha, everything we're both saying is pretty much the same arguments and points that people have been making since the birth of YB.

Sites do make a profit, theres no question of that (because the business model allows for a profit), its the scale of how much.

Without stating figures, Free Coin doesn well. Better than it did last month, but its still not as good as I want it to be.

Free Coin is our biggest time consuming product, but one of our lowest earners.

We're making more from it now because we've redesigned the business model to allow for other revenue streams, but it doesn't take away from the fact that I spend most of my time, (when I'm not doing coursework, eating, sleeping, drinking, showering or taking a dump) working on Free Coin, but make more money from doing other things.
